VICKI ROSE YOUNG REDDICK 1945-2003

Since Vicki is no longer with us, I thought I’d fill you in on a little bit of her life. She lived on Hawthorne Road right next to Baptist Hospital prior to 8th grade but soon moved to Stratford Road. Her father was the head of Pastoral Care at Baptist while her mother was mostly a stay-at-home mom. She had 2 younger brothers, Dick and David. At Reynolds, we were best friends along with Caroline Carlton, Hege Russ, David John, and Steve Hayes. We played serious bridge EVERY day after school and thoroughly enjoyed our high school years. She graduated from St. Andrews College and came back to Winston-Salem to work in nuclear medicine at Baptist Hospital where she met the plastic surgeon she married, Lovett Reddick. She became the godmother to my daughter, Elisabeth, in 1969. In the early 1980s, they moved to Johnson City, TN, and she gave birth to her son, Evan, and her daughter, Polly. Vicki led a life that many of us would envy! Never interested in a career or housework of any kind, she did not cook, clean, shop, or work, but spent her days reading, reading, and reading! She was a collector of books on obscure topics such as mountaineering and could read several books per day. She also could complete the NY Times crossword puzzle in a ridiculously short period of time! Her other love was tennis and she played every day. Her daughter Polly was a nationally ranked player during high school, and they traveled all over for competitions.

Vicki had a family history of breast cancer and was not able to overcome her second battle with it. She was a bright, delightful friend who was devoted to her children. My son is still searching for a girl “like Vicki” to marry! Vicki would have added some interesting stories and a real spark to our reunion!
